Monday.com Time Tracking: Export Hours to Excel
Monday.com's time tracking column captures work hours, but exporting them to a proper timesheet format takes extra steps. Here's how to do it efficiently.
Monday.com Tracks Time — Exporting Is Another Story
Monday.com's Time Tracking column is genuinely useful. Click to start a timer, click to stop, and the hours are logged against the item. You can see total time per item, per person, per board.
But when you need that data in an Excel timesheet — for a client, for payroll, for project reporting — the export options aren't great. Monday.com's Excel export includes the full board structure, not a clean timesheet format.
Method 1: Board Export
The simplest approach:
- Open your board in Monday.com
- Click the three-dot menu → Export board to Excel
- Open the
.xlsxfile
What you don't get: Individual time entries (only totals), clean timesheet format, date breakdowns, or grouped categories.
For basic reporting this works. For client-facing timesheets, it needs cleanup.
Method 2: Monday.com Workdocs + Dashboard
Monday.com's built-in analytics can create time tracking dashboards:
- Add a Dashboard to your workspace
- Use the Time Tracking widget
- Filter by person, board, or date range
- View charts and summaries
Method 3: Pair Monday.com with Your Calendar
A direct Monday.com connection is on the Stintt roadmap — the Monday.com integration page is marked coming soon, so there is no board pull available yet.
What you can do today is cover the half of the picture Monday.com never sees:
- Connect Google Calendar or Microsoft Teams
- Select boards' worth of work by date range rather than by board
- Preview meetings and scheduled work as timesheet entries
- Export as formatted Excel — standard, daily summary, or client billing
Getting the Most Out of Monday.com Time Tracking
1. Add the Time Tracking column to every work board. It's not enabled by default. Go to any board → Add Column → Time Tracking.
2. Use groups as project categories. "Design Tasks", "Development", "Client Communication" — groups in Monday.com map naturally to timesheet categories.
3. Set up a dedicated timesheet board. Create a board specifically for time reporting with columns: Task, Date, Hours, Category, Billable (checkbox). Mirror items from project boards.
4. Use automations for reminders. Monday.com automations can send weekly reminders: "When it's Friday at 4 PM, notify team: Log your hours!"
Combining Monday.com with Calendar Data
Monday.com tracks project tasks but not meetings. Pair it with:
- Google Calendar or Microsoft Teams for meeting tracking
- Export those sources together via Stintt
- A direct Zoom pull for actual meeting duration is coming soon
